Actually, my grandpa retired at 88. Still had his farm and ran cattle up until then. He spent one more year running cattle and was dead at 94 I think. My Dad said his dad died because he was bored. I guess that's one reason my Dad at 78 still runs his farm and can work circles around most people I know.
Exciting, fast, explosive and diverse offense. Physical, punishing, relentless, suffocating defense.
I was talking to a few buddies (all of whom are on here) after Tulane. We all thought the team looked totally unprepared for the game. And it looked that way almost the entire season. Like the coaches were doing just enough to get by and make it look like they were trying hard. Players all over the field regressed and the effort just wasn't there from all of them. I truly believe that teams are a reflection of their HC and this team had a coach looking, actively, for another job. It showed all season long.
Yea it was obvious to anyone who remotely knows football. Why does a certain poster constantly defend the previous coaching staff??!!! its hilariously absurd lol
That team was physically dominated by Tulane and Nebraska as well but eeked out wins by a hair on talent alone. They were also physically dominated by Okie State and Baylor as well and lost both because those two teams were better than Tulane and Nebraska. It was clear something was very wrong with the team.

Getting rid of Shmitty, a guy with five NC's as an S&C coach, and replaced him with Bennie Wylie, a guy with a couple of Alamo Bowl wins, was the biggest bungle of LR's OU tenure. The fact that he took him to SC tells me the rebuild at SC is unlike to work in it's present form

I think that was an issue for sure but not all of it. Our team has been afraid of physicality for years, especially in the defensive backfield. I think that's a different issue. Some of the guys we've had in the secondary don't seem to want to understand they all have run support responsibilities like the rest of the defense.
what if twisting one knob opened up more than one keyslot, and if you used the key in the wrong slot, it actually locked it more, until you undid the wrong turns?
I don't like thinking about how difficult it would be, to unlock, if my kids started twisting and locking things.

Well, if in a movie, turning things in the wrong sequence would start the walls moving in to crush you or the room filling with water (or worse).
It's because OU fans actually know and understand the game of football. We saw a team that had vastly more talent than every team we played (except maybe UT) yet had eight games decided by a TD or less. Our HC/OC/QB coach had to depend on walk-ons and transfers at QB to be successful. And our defense was more reminiscent of the Blake era that the Switzer or early Stoops era.
LR was/is a brilliant play caller, but he took a Ferrari in of a tune up and was slowly turning it into a Yugo. Perhaps he learned something here and will eventually be a successful HC, but right now he appears to be the embodiment of the Peter Principle, great OC when someone else manages the culture and overall program, a weak HC who inherited a good program and was slowly letting it slide toward mediocrity.
Yep. Fans did start to question the coaches when we were still undefeated, but it was clear to anybody with a pair of eyes that something was very wrong and no action was being taken to remedy the glaring issues. Instead, the staff offered "winning is hard" platitudes at weekly pressers and appeared to ignore the problems. Ultimately, we figured out why.....
DC, the silver lining is that my wife has determined that what I was yelling at the TV was/is actually true. She now thinks I am a football genius. BV is going to ruin all of that.
I like this. Let a guy get good at one position. Once that is accomplished, you can see how he does with multiple. Not everyone is capable of playing more than one position well.
