In general, this is just last year except the close wins are close loses. This is probably what we would have had with LR if he'd stayed. We were on a slow slide and the next step was changing close wins into close loses. The biggest problem is he didn't just run away but he actually sabotaged OU on the way out.
Maybe so. I think it could have easily been a lot more like last year just because of the fact that we would have CW. As much snake as he and his dad were he is a game changing QB. He makes plays to keep a drive going and will get where he NEEDS TO see the whole field. But you are right. The feel of this team and last yearβs team is eerily similar. Thatβs why I give BV a little more time before I start blaming him. The mind of these kids is a lot harder to strengthen than their bodies.
And I think that's the key. They talk about being bought in, but I think some of them don't understand what that means.
I also wonder if Roof's personality is a good fit with BV. He seems more like grandpa than BV's drill sergeant. It will be interesting to see what, if any, staff changes occur. There's also Gundy's spot that still has an interim tag. How much of Mim's problems are related to having an inexperienced coach who can't help him out of his funk?

This year reminds of that story about a wronged basketball coach who secludes himself, then walks around in the hood and sees some kids playing basketball on an outdoor court. He then takes them in and makes them a championship district team-- goes something like that. The team may have been in a more desperate shape than we all realized.
