"Back when Wilkinson built this thing, with help from the rich donors around OKC, it was understood that OU would do whatever it took. That type of mentality NEEDS TO be restarted. If they aren’t going to do that, and perhaps the state has changed and they don’t even want to do that anymore, than OU NEEDS TO stop the SEC move.

I’ll be ok with that decision if they are honest, and tell us that they are unwilling to do the unethical things needed to compete in the SEC.

But the second I see OU go 7-5 and the President or AD steps to the podium and says “ OU is about winning the right way”, I’m gonna come unglued, because everyone already knows what is gonna be required to win in the SEC, and it’s not going to be easy to stomach, and it’s not going to be aesthetically pleasing, either."

I say lets just wait and see how this all plays out. We are in great position with HCBV, and our new staff and the renewed enthusiasm and support from the higher ups. I have no doubt that if a scenario as you suggests actually plays out, rumblings will be loud and clear. OU is NOT a perennial 7-5 type of program, and I have utmost confidence the administration and everyone else agrees with this.

NIL has changed the longstanding bagman "rules" even for the sec.

texsa and aggie are throwing huge amounts out under NIL but just like the bagman model. Two things work against this - players know the money is not really tied to advertising/marketing value of a player, but is a bribe, so the differential in bribe payoffs can leave the lesser paid players jealous; and the "bribe" NIL is not sustainable beyond the initial cash provided by the school (or its alums), thus blunting longterm value to a player.

Much like many players turned down the bagman bribe, smarter ones will turn down the NIL-bribe in favor of a quality combination of true NIL opportunities, development as a player, winning, and enjoying the fun and friendship of college and his teammates now and long into the future.

** I understand that some recruits/players will opt for money over anything. I also believe that those mercenary players will not, in the end, make up the best TEAM.

Here's the thing about buying recruiting classes...it's only gonna work for one season. Those 5*s tend to come with some Prima Dona attitudes and they will not willingly sit the bench. In this regard, the portal will actively counter the NIL.

I feel like whisky kilo is a stupid asshole who NEEDS TO be ignored. We’ve proven already that we are taking the necessary steps to win in that league. I don’t want to become 80’s SMU to do it

Absolutely not. Dabo didn't have to cheat to beat Alabama. Neither do we. And Clemson did it as only the 25th top-revenue earning football programs while OU was 6th. Tennessee, USC, Florida, Arkansas, Iowa, Michigan State, South Carolina, Nebraska, Auburn, Ole Miss, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Washington all earn more than Clemson.

texsa is usually at or near the top, so is texsa a&m. Look where that's gotten them.
