I think special teams is the poster child for why we were in a downward trend over the last couple of years. After Beamer left, we just didn't seem to care anymore. i really never saw that beamer contributed much to ST... i think he may have had some success in recruiting but i was never particularly impressed by anything from him and was indifferent about his departure

Except that ST became even worse when he left. Sounds like LR didn't care and Beamer was trying to coach special teams with no support from the HC.

beamer was probably shopping for a job shortly after arriving... hope he and SR7 do some damage
do the stats you linked to account for the defense allowing fewer scores and therefore fewer kick return opportunities? wondered about touchbacks as well?

Don't know. But better defense should give you more opportunities for punt returns and the punts shouldn't be as deep into your territory thus giving you a better chance to return. Instead, we got worse.
