1) Jerry Schmidt - Under current NCAA rules, coaches are limited in the number of hours they can interact with players. S&C coaches fall into a different category and so let coaches focus on the important matters during their allotted hours. S&C also affects the strength, conditioning, and by implications physicality and toughness of the team.
2) Thad Turnipseed - When BV says “Everything Matters” and “the Standard is the Best”, Thad Turnipseed is in charge of making everything in the program not directly football related The Best. He did it for Bama. He did it for Clemson. Now he’s doing it for us.
3) Jeff Lebby - As a defensive coach, BV needed a OC to match his defensive prowess. That guy is Jeff Libby, arguably a better OC over the last two years than LR.
4) Todd Bates & Migel Chavis - With Shmitty back doing S&C, making the OL and DL tougher and stronger, Coach B should have the OL humming again. What our defense has lacked over the last few years is an elite DL. With a DL getting pressure on the QB and keeping OL off the LB’s the entire defense should be better. Bates had a sound track record of recruiting and developing NFL caliber DL. Chavis is an up and comer who appear poised to do the same for DE’s especially as he learns from Bates.
5) The Analyst staff - The elite programs have an analyst for every coach, allowing the coaches to focus on the time restricted activities such as teaching technique to young players. By running practice drill, watching film etc., they allow the coaches coach and take the administrative burden off them.
