Well well well. Im sure I am as sick at that performance as almost anyone. BV got handed his first loss.
We knew it was gonna happen, sucks its just 4 games in and first big 12 game. Also sucks its to K-state, AGAIN.
Offensively we looked average. And by average, I mean we looked freaking awesome, and freaking terrible. In games like this, where a team jumps out quickly as k-state did, I understand the tendency by Lebby to go fast and strike back, which we did. But also in games like this, where defense cant seem to get off the field, our offense needs to take control and win the T.O.P. This we did not... not even close.
After tying the score, Lebby needed to focus on running the ball much, much more. It was working. Gray (I thought) looked like the better back tonight, and was ripping off 10 yarders at will at times. Keep running the ball. Even starting 1st and 15, RUN. THE. BALL. It was working. He was way to quick to go to play action, imo. Keep running the ball down their throats until they stop you. Run some clock, and give the defense time to rest, and more importantly, make adjustments.
DG. Not sure what to say. I never really knew what to think of him, as he was basically an unknown to many of us. He is average. Some great throws at times, but other times misses guys WIDE FREAKING OPEN. That just cant happen if you want to dominate teams. Also, he needs to use his legs more. DG's comparison for me, is PAUL THOMPSON. Yes, that Paul Thompson. He can get the job done, but we're not going to dominate with him at qb. (unless he makes massive improvements.) I do appreciate how he has limited turnovers so far, but thats also because he doesnt always let it rip when he needs to. Sometimes you gotta take shots and just give your playmakers a chance.
OL. STOP GETTING FALSE STARTS. So effing simple really. Blocking was pretty good imo. Dumb penalties = not dominating.
Defense. What the literal shit show was that? I get it, Vaughn is quick, very shifty, strong, and hard to see. Those little dynamos really are the hardest to bring down. However, Martinez is not. No reason at all he is Heisman winner against us, but sucks vs everyone else. Absolutely REEEKS of MOOPS and SPEED D. Which is to say, trash.
And zero turnovers? Damnit if we arent due for an effing fumble return TD or god forbid a pick 6. Jeez louise.
Also, where was all the substituting we had seen the last 3 weeks? Where were any of the young guys? the defense was tired, and getting gashed. Get some of the young pups in there, they have performed well (i.e. KANAK) and definitely wouldnt have fared worse than the starters.
And this goes for the offense too. Where was our homerun hitter Barnes? Where was 6'5" Gibson (especially with DGs overthrows?) Where was the special play for "white" adrian peterson?
Also offense, specifically Lebby. Dont be afraid coach. The fake double reverse to stoops would have actually worked brilliantly had Stoops actually gotten the ball. Need more throws down the seem. Where are the TE's streaking the Seems? Where are the pop passes? where are the screens? I feel like lebby needs to pull his head out, and do much better to get this offense into rhythm, especially early.
ST. eh. Looked like the same ol nothing burger we are used to from them. Not many chances for returns last night, but where is the punt block pressure? Do we ever even care to try? Last nights game was the epitome of needing some juice and momentum from a great ST play.
Overall a very typical performance from a later years Bob and MOOPS team, or a TBOW and MOOPS team, or a TBOW and SPEED D teams. that is to say, they werent pumped up, they werent ready to dominate. They were ready to play down to their competition. Really, Really hoping that was over with... and it may be in time. Last night, it was not.
And as a last thought to this monologue, I feel it must be said. ENOUGH WITH THE FREAKING LIGHTS!!!
Look, I like them, I do. They are badass. But they are used too much, especially in a game like this. We dont need to go dark and shoot off fireworks on a score when we are down 2 tds. Sorry, we just dont. Its akin to the DB who celebrates a dropped pass when he had nothing to do with it, has been burned all game, and we are losing. Its just childish. Again, I like the lights. They are absolutely cool, and should be used in the right situations, but damn.. lets not look like fools celebrating with fireworks when we are FREAKING LOSING, numbnuts.
That is all.
BOOOOOMER!
