When 2024 rolls around and the 12 team playoff begins there will be 5 auto bids for the P5 conferences, which 4 of them will get a 1st round bye. Looking at what will be left in the Big 12, I’m not sure this conference will be worthy of any 1st round byes, probably not the Pac either, but one of them will get it. It’s like the 8-9 Bucs making the playoffs because someone from the division has a guaranteed spot.

Well, I am honestly surprised. I really didn't think we were going to get out early. I even more surprised we're willing to cough up $50M to do it, at most I was expecting $25-27M. Well, we better get good in a big hurry. It's going to get real, soon.

The penalty is reduced payout for 24 and 25. Given the much higher pay for SEC teams in 25, OU will "lose" a lot less than it appears. The 50 mil is almost a standard (60% of total 85ish) based on previous changes by other teams/leagues.
For the future, the 12 loses any way one looks at it. The SEC and the Big 10 will get the lion's share of the 12 playoff spots. PAC, ACC, and 12 get ONE sure, but any beyond that are unlikely.
